Functional Medicine – By definition, Functional Medicine addresses the Functions of the body.  It gets to the underlying causes of disease using a systems-oriented approach that engages both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership to heal the body.  This approach to medicine uses dietary changes, food-based supplements, herbal, and homeopathic remedies.

Pediatric Functional Medicine – Our office treats many children, from infants through young adults.  Babies that are fussy, sleepless, or suffering from thrush or other health issues thrive under the care of Dr. Courtney.  School age children with behavioral or focus issues are also a clinic specialty.

Nutrition counseling – Nutrition counseling includes diet recommendations and modifications, identifying food intolerances, food journaling, detoxification, and nutrition education.  We pride ourselves on the scope of knowledge we impart on our patients regarding inflammatory foods, healing foods, recipes, and even replacement foods.  There is no “food shaming” in our office.  Rather, we encourage the patient to make small dietary changes and food replacements, over time, that will result in increased energy, vitality, and optimum health.

Acupuncture –  Acupuncture involves the insertion of sterile thin needles into particular points on the body. The purpose of this treatment is to prevent or reduce pain and to help your body function at its best.    Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi or chi (pronounced “CHEE”) — that flows through pathways (meridians) in your body.  By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners help rebalance your energy flow.

In contrast, many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This stimulation appears to boost the activity of your body’s natural painkillers and increase blood flow.

NAET (Nambutripad’s Allergy Elimination Treatment) – NAET uses a blend of nutrition, energy balancing, kinesiological disciplines, and acupuncture/acupressure testing and treatment procedures to effectively eliminate allergies and sensitivities.

Herbal Medicine – Herbal medicine is a major aspect of traditional Chinese medicine.  Additionally, herbal medicine is a perfect complement to an integrative, functional medicine program.  We only use pharmaceutica therapeutic strength herbs in our clinic.  These medicines simply come from the earth, yet we continue to be amazed by the results.

Homeopathy – Homeopathy is the practice of medicine that embraces a holistic, natural approach to the treatment of the sick.  Homeopathy is holistic because it treats the person as a whole, rather than focusing on a diseased part or a labeled sickness.
