About Dr. Courtney

Dr. Courtney Scianandre is a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine (DOM), an Acupuncture Physician (AP), and a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc)  She graduated from the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  She trained under some of the leading practitioners in her field.

Dr. Courtney specializes in acupuncture, nutrition, herbal medicine, acupoint injection, auricular acupuncture, homeopathy and detoxification.  She was drawn to the field of holistic medicine due to her own health challenges as a child.  She suffered greatly with asthma that was further complicated by food allergies.  Holistic healthcare just made sense to her.

Shortly after Dr. Courtney started practicing, she determined that acupuncture was not the solution to the problem.  She found that many of her patients were not healthy enough for their acupuncture treatments to have an impact.  They would feel better directly after their treatment, but long-term symptom relief was not possible while their bodies were so unhealthy.

A body that is overloaded with toxins or suffering due to long-term immune stressors is not going to heal through acupuncture alone.  An integrated program, combining herbal medicine, acupuncture, and clinical nutrition gives the patient a well-rounded, customized route to healing.

Dr. Courtney has learned that the traditional, Western medical model works on relieving symptoms only but never targeting the cause of the symptoms.  It is a widely accepted ideology that overall good health means you’re symptom free.  In this model, once the symptoms are alleviated, patients discontinue care.  The problem is that symptom relief does not actually heal the body.

When a patient becomes sick, their symptoms are usually the last things to arrive.  So, if symptoms are the last things to arrive when a patient is sick, it would make sense that they would be the first things to go away when treatment starts.  If a patient discontinues treatment once the symptoms disappear, they will never fully address the cause of the symptoms.  And if the cause of the symptoms is never addressed, it is safe to say that they will return again and again until the root cause has been handled.  We refer to managing only the symptoms as “relief care”, as opposed to “corrective care”, which is addressing the cause of the symptoms so that they don’t return.  Our clinic is based on the corrective care model.  This model allows us to dedicate our work with patients to truly healing their bodies.
